Healing Doesn't Erase Your Story
Often we misunderstand what healing really means. Sometimes we imagine healing means we will reach a point where the past no longer matters.
We won't think about it.
We won't feel anything about it.
It will be as if those difficult years never happened.
But that's not usually how healing works.
Healing doesn't erase your story.
It changes the way you carry it.
The Difference Between Remembering and Reliving
Your past is part of you.
The lessons you learned.
The strength you discovered.
The compassion you developed.
The wisdom you gained.
Those things came from real experiences.
But there is a difference between remembering what happened and allowing what happened to continue controlling your present.
A scar is evidence that something happened.
It is not evidence that you are still wounded.
A scar tells a story of healing.
You Don't Have to Become Someone Who Never Hurts
Sometimes women feel discouraged when an old memory surfaces or a familiar emotion returns.
They wonder: "Why am I still affected by this?"
But healing doesn't mean you never feel sadness again.
It means sadness no longer owns you.
You can acknowledge what happened without moving back into that painful place.
You can honor the woman who survived without remaining trapped in survival mode.
A Different Way to Look Back
When you look back at your life, I hope you can begin to see more than what was lost.
Notice what was gained.
The boundaries you learned to create.
The courage you discovered.
The kindness you now offer others because you know what it feels like to need kindness yourself.
Your story is not just about what happened to you.
It is also about what you chose to do with what happened.
A Thought to Carry With You
You don't have to rewrite your past to create a beautiful future.
The chapters you've lived through are still part of your book.
But they are not the final pages.
You are still writing.
And there is so much more story left to tell.
