Why You Don't Need Everyone to Understand Your Healing
One of the hardest lessons in healing has very little to do with the hurt itself.
It has to do with accepting that not everyone will understand the choices you've made because of it.
Some people may wonder why you've stepped away from certain relationships. Others may think you've become "too sensitive" or "less fun." There may even be people who encourage you to "just let it go" because they can't see the invisible weight you've been carrying.
For a long time, you may feel tempted to explain yourself.
You rehearse conversations in your mind. You search for just the right words, hoping that if people truly understood your experience, they would finally approve of your decisions.
But healing isn't a courtroom.
You don't have to present evidence for the life you're choosing.
What This Might Look Like
As you grow, your priorities begin to shift.
You may decide not to attend every family gathering. You may limit conversations that leave you feeling drained. You may choose quiet over chaos, peace over pleasing, and honesty over pretending.
Some people will celebrate those changes.
Others won't.
And that's okay.
The people who genuinely love you don't need every detail to respect your decisions. They may not fully understand your journey, but they can still honor it.
Not everyone has to agree with your boundaries for them to be healthy.
A Gentle Invitation
The next time you feel yourself reaching for another explanation, pause for just a moment.
Ask yourself:
"Am I trying to be understood...or am I simply looking for permission?"
There is a beautiful freedom that comes when you stop waiting for everyone else's approval.
Your healing is not a group project.
It is a sacred, personal journey between the woman you have been and the woman you are becoming.
And that journey is worthy of respect—even when only you fully understand it.
